Episode Guide

Dexter's Laboratory is an American animated television series created by Genndy Tartakovsky for Cartoon Network. Initially debuting in 1995 as a series of shorts on World Premiere Toons, the show was picked up the following year for its own series, broadcasting 78 total episodes and a television movie across 4 seasons. The second season finale, "Last But Not Beast", was originally supposed to end the series in 1998, but the series' production picked up again in 2001 with most of the crew being replaced. The third season episode "Copping an Aptitude/A Failed </span Lab Experiment/The Grand-Daddy of All Inventions" is the last episode of the series to feature Christine Cavanaugh as the voice of Dexter; from the next episode onward, Dexter is voiced by Candi Milo. The last episode aired on November 20, 2003. Also released was a controversial unaired episode called "Rude Removal", which was originally only shown at certain comic conventions. The segment was later picked up by Adult Swim and released to the public on >January 22, 2013, online.

Deedeemensional: When Dexter falls victim to a terrifying creature brought forth by his latest invention, Dee Dee goes back in time one hour earlier to warn him, but Dexter proves to be hard to convince. Well, that is until he sees two Dee Dees. Dial M for Monkey: Magmanamus: Monkey must defend a city from a giant lava creature, Magmanamus (Brad Garrett), who only wants the entire world to be quiet so he can get some sleep (for a few centuries). That episode is a parody of the Godzilla giant monster films made in Japan. Maternal Combat: Dexter creates a Mom-Droid to do his mother's chores when she falls ill. However, Dee Dee gets hold of the remote to the robot and wreaks havoc. Dexter desperately creates another one to counter Dee Dee.

Dexter Dodgeball: Dexter tries to excuse himself out of P.E. with a fake note, but the new coach does not accept it so Dexter is forced to play dodgeball and endure torment from three bullies. The word "Crap" (which is used in the original broadcast) was muted in some Cartoon Network and Boomerang reruns. However in recent showings, and on the DVD release, the episode remains uncensored. Dial M for Monkey: Rasslor: Intergalactic wrestling champion Rasslor ("Macho Man" Randy Savage) comes to Earth looking for a new opponent, and challenges all of Earth's superheroes, if no one can beat him he will destroy the Earth. However, Rasslor refuses to wrestle Monkey due to his size. This also marks the first appearance of the Justice Friends. Dexter's Assistant: In need of an assistant for the science fair, Dexter performs a brain transplant on Dee Dee to make her smart enough to fill the role. Unfortunately, with her new brain, Dee Dee turns out to be much smarter than Dexter, much to his chagrin.

Double Trouble: In order to rid himself of Dee Dee, Dexter clones himself. However, Dee Dee, and her friends, Mee Mee and Lee Lee do the same several times, causing havoc. Dial M for Monkey: Barbequor: Monkey's birthday is interrupted by Barbequor, a villain who wants to roast Earth for his next meal. In 2004, this episode was banned from airing in America, due to featuring a character called the Silver Spooner (a parody of the Silver Surfer) that stereotyped gay men. It has been replaced in subsequent airings and the DVD release with Dexter's Lab: A Story. One of the original shorts, A Dexter Cartoon, is featured as the third segment of this episode under the title Changes.  Changes: Dexter and Dee Dee test his latest invention: a device that turns people into animals, which yields crazy results.

Dimwit Dexter: Dexter has a mental lapse due to brain exhaustion and acts idiotic, garnering the amusement of the neighborhood kids.

Game Over: Dexter's dad buys a video game for the kids to play, but eventually Dexter gets trapped in the video game by a rogue computer program and it becomes up to Dee Dee to get him out. The episode is loosely based on Tron.

Babysitter Blues: Dexter tries everything to win the heart of his much older babysitter, even sabotaging her relationship with her boyfriend and accelerating his age, only to get knocked out by her boyfriend. The Justice Friends: Valhallen's Room: When Valhallen loses his magic "axe" and starts to transform into a geek, Krunk and Major Glory venture into his room to find it. Dream Machine: Dexter's nightmares become a problem, so he has Dee Dee operate a dream machine to fix the problem, but it soon turns out that Dee Dee is unreliable and he eventually gets the ultimate nightmare: Dee Dee being the "grandfather of all knowledge". In the end, Dexter is naked having a horrible nightmare the laughing crowd laughs at him, the bunch of laughing Dee Dee's are laughing, he is screaming for Dee Dee, but she is still sleeping.

Doll House Drama: After Dexter shrinks himself to doll size, he becomes an unwilling character in Dee Dee's doll story. Due to a side effect of shrinking, he starts to confuse fantasy with reality, and starts to believe the story is real. The Justice Friends: Krunk's Date: Krunk gets a crush on She-Thing. The Big Cheese: Dexter invents a device in order to learn French in his sleep, but when the record skips and repeats a single phrase all night long, he wakes up to finds that he can only say "Omelette Au Fromage" (Omelette du fromage) (which roughly translates to "cheese omelet"). This strangely makes Dexter something of a celebrity, until he is faced with his laboratory's explosive security measures.

Way of the Dee Dee: After Dee Dee talks about Dexter's lonely lifestyle, he asks her to teach him her ways, only to become more like Dee Dee than he had estimated. The Justice Friends: Say Uncle Sam: Major Glory's uncle, Sam, is about to pay a visit, but the apartment is in no shape for company. Tribe Called Girl: Wanting to learn more about girls, Dexter spies on Dee Dee and her friends, Mee Mee and Lee Lee during a sleepover. Unfortunately, the girls catch him spying on them and make him participate in their activities.

Space Case: To get rid of some aliens, Dexter offers Dee Dee as a test subject tricking her into thinking they're going to Candy Land, but soon begins to realize how much he loves his sister. The Justice Friends: Ratman: While trying to fix the furnace, the Justice Friends find Ratman living in their basement. Dexter's Debt: Dexter's lab is threatened with repossession when he receives a $200,000,000 bill from NASA, while Dee Dee wins the same amount in a lottery, starting a conflict of conscience within Dexter.

Inflata Dee Dee: Dee Dee tries on Dexter's inflatable suit and is swept away on the wind, leaving it up to Dexter to save her. The Justice Friends: Can't Nap: Valhallen invites White Tiger to the apartment, forgetting that Major Glory is allergic to cats. Monstory: Hoping to silence Dee Dee so he will not have to hear her story, Dexter gives her a silencing potion. However, he grabs the wrong vial and turns her into a monster by mistake. As the effects worsen, Dexter turns to drastic measures to subdue her. As when he does that, they look like giant monsters battling each other and destroying the city with some Godzilla-style giant monster rampages and battles. This is a spoof of the Kaiju films made in Japan.

The Beard to Be Feared: After a fright from Dee Dee, Dexter lays down in the beard growing machine and tries to grow a beard like his hero, Action Hank. Quackor the Fowl: Mandark does not know that his pet duck is really Quackor the Fowl, Monkey's rival. Quackor overhears Mandark talking in his sleep about destroying Dexter's lab and tries to do it, unaware that Monkey is Dexter's pet. Ant Pants: Dexter prevents Dee Dee from destroying some ants. In order to teach her about ants, Dexter and Dee Dee enter Dexter's ant farm, only to see that the ants are a little too civilized for their taste.

Mom and Jerry: Dexter accidentally switches his brain with a mouse, and must avoid his mother when she decides to exterminate him. As the title suggests, this short parodies classic cat & mouse animated subjects such as Tom and Jerry. Chubby Cheese: At the Chubby Cheese pizza restaurant, Dexter tries to slow down the "Whack the Weasel" machine to win a stuffed Monkey doll before Dee Dee does. When he gets captured by security for tampering with the machine, he falls into the hands of a mad scientist who seeks to use him as his assistant. That Crazy Robot: One of Dexter's robot inventions becomes Dee Dee's servant when she removes a wrench that froze him up, but the robot, much to Dee Dee's dismay, is willing to destroy anyone who is mean to Dee Dee or scolds her, even her friends, her mother, and Dexter himself.

D & DD: When Dexter's friends become tired of the complicated traps he sets up as Game Master while playing a RPG game, they put Dee Dee in charge for a change of pace. Dexter does not find Dee Dee's style of play as fun as his friends do. A spoof of Dungeons and Dragons board game. Hamhocks and Armlocks: Dexter's father gets challenged to an arm-wrestling match against a local champion, Earl, at a truck stop which the family car breaks down nearby. Upon seeing Earl's determination to fight their father, Dexter attaches a robotic arm to his body to ensure he wins.

Hunger Strikes: Dexter uses radiation therapy so he can like vegetables, but a severe side-effect turns him into an Incredible Hulk-like character if he goes too long without them. The Koos Is Loose: Dee Dee's imaginary friend, Koosalagoopagoop (Dom DeLuise), comes to life and annoys Dexter. Koosalagoopagoop later appears in another episode in the series and makes a cameo appearance in The Powerpuff Girls episode "Imaginary Fiend". Morning Stretch: Dexter oversleeps after a late-night work at the lab, waking up one minute before his school bus comes, leaving him no time to finish his homework and get ready for school, so he makes a helmet which turns 30 seconds into 30 minutes, unaware that the school is closed due to a snowdown.

Dee Dee Locks and the Loch Ness Monster: Dexter's mother approaches Dexter to read a bedtime story to Dee Dee when she's sick, but she makes up her own story after being bored by Dexter's story. Backfire: Dexter fuses Dee Dee with the family car by accident, causing mayhem. Book 'Em: Dexter and Dee Dee must return a library book which Dexter forgot to check out.

Sister's Got a Brand New Bag: Dee Dee's new dance moves annoys Dexter to no end. Shoo, Shoe Gnomes: Dexter calls upon the "shoe gnomes" to repair his shoes, but cannot rid himself of them afterwards. Lab of the Lost: Dexter ends up in the "old part of the lab" where his earliest inventions, long since forgotten, are not too happy to see him.

Labels: Dee Dee starts to take anything that belongs to Dexter, claiming that it "doesn't have his name on it." He invents a label-making gun to make sure his things do. Game Show: Dexter and Dee Dee compete against each other on a game show. Fantastic Boyage: Dexter tries to inject himself into Dee Dee to find a cure to the common cold, but ends up inside his dog subsequently believing Dee Dee has been infected with a dog virus.

Filet of Soul: Dexter and Dee Dee do not want to give their dead fish a proper burial, but are haunted by spirits of him when they do not. Golden Diskette: Dee Dee finds a "golden diskette" allowing her and Dexter to enter Professor Hawk's computerfactory. Dee Dee's behavior in the factory frees Professor Hawk from his robotic body.

Snowdown: When Dee Dee's snowball skills outclass Dexter, their father trains him to be the snowball terror he was at their age. It soon turns out that Dee Dee was trained by their mother, who was a bigger snowball terror than her husband. Figure Not Included: Dexter cannot join his local Major Glory gang because he does not have an action figure, so he makes his own. He then learns an important lesson about how his friends should treat him. Mock 5: To race in the "Annual Soapbox Derby down Volcano Mountain", Dexter and his father build the "Mock 5". The episode is a parody of Speed Racer.

Ewww That's Growth: Tired of his small stature after he cannot get on a rollercoaster, Dexter makes himself taller. Nuclear Confusion: Dee Dee hides the power core to Dexter's nuclear lamp, and he must decipher her clues within 40 minutes after which it would explode, destroying the earth with it. Germ Warfare: A very sick Dee Dee gets her germs all over Dexter's lab.

A Hard Day's Day: Dexter needs to find a way to move the moon, which is blocking Saturn and its "science waves" (which is what makes it a "good day for science"). Unfortunately he brings the moon to the earth, destroying his lab. Road Rash: Dexter's parents get him a bike for exercise, but he's unable to catch Dee Dee on her inline skates. This episode parodies the Wile E. Coyote and Road Runnercartoons, with Dexter trying similar techniques as Wile E. Coyote in capturing Dee Dee, and at one point Dee Dee imitating the Roadrunner with the trademark "Meep-meep!" Ocean Commotion: Dexter's family goes to the beach, where Dexter tries to communicate with whales, and Dee Dee (dressed as a mermaid) is captured by manic pirates.

The Bus Boy: A couple of girls knock Dexter's pencil into the deep, dark back of the bus, which legend says no one returns from. The Justice Friends: Things That Go Bonk in the Night: After a Puppet Pals marathon, Krunk dreams the Puppet Pals are attacking puppet versions of Major Glory and Valhallen. Ol' McDexter: Dexter becomes disappointed when he ends up at an Amish farm instead of the high-tech farm for summer camp. His subsequent attempts to modernize the Amish family do not fall down well with them.

Sassy Come Home: Dexter hunts for Sasquatch, who befriends Dee Dee because of her similarly huge feet. Photo Finish: Dee Dee photographs Dexter's lab, and Dexter has to get the film back before his mother sees the pictures of his lab.

Star Check Unconventional: Dexter and his friends try to escape a Darbie doll convention where they arrived because they were not paying attention to were they were going, while dressed as "Star Check" characters, a parody of Star Trek. Dexter Is Dirty: Tired of bathing, Dexter laminates himself to keep himself clean. Ice Cream Scream: Dexter cannot get the ice cream truck to stop for him following an incident where he paid for his ice-cream in pennies to the driver.

Decode of Honor: Dexter and Dee Dee's secret decoder rings hold the keys to joining the Action Hanks and Pony Puff fan clubs, but the clues do not seem right. World's Greatest Mom: Dexter accidentally gives his mother super powers, when she is hit with a ray of energy. She does not even notice she has superpowers, but she acts like a superhero. Ultrajerk 2000: Dexter designs a new robot Ultramark 2000 to help him with his laboratory. Unfortunately, it ends up controlling his lab, so Dexter must find a way to destroy it.

Techno Turtle: Dexter rebuilds an injured turtle Dee Dee befriends. Surprise!: In order to see his birthday presents, Dexter turns himself invisible. Got Your Goat: Dexter and Dee Dee go to South America to catch the legendary chupacabra, which is actually one of Dexter's experiments. He tries to remember what he created it for.

Dee Dee Be Deep: Dee Dee's voice becomes a booming baritone after Dexter attempts to "improve" her singing. 911: When an Action Hank episode is interrupted by the Emergency Broadcast System, Dexter travels around the world to solve the problem. Dee Dee uses her imagination to figure out the ending of the episode, which turns out to be right. Down in the Dumps: Dee Dee's favorite teddy bear gets sent to the dump. Dexter and Dee Dee travel to the dump to get it back.

Unfortunate Cookie: Dexter and Dee Dee are stuck together by a Chinese finger trap and must travel to Chinatown to free themselves. This proves difficult, due to their constant bickering. The Muffin King: Dexter and Dee Dee have to keep their father away from their mother's freshly baked muffins while she is out shopping.

Picture Day: Dexter transforms his face so his school picture will look nice, by molding a handsome face out of wax. Now That's a Stretch: Dexter makes himself stretchy using a machine to turn himself into bubble gum. Dexter Detention: Dexter gets sent to detention after someone caused him to shout the answer to the first question of the test in annoyance. When Dexter tries to escape the detention room, he ends up in the State Prison.

This episode, a spoof of anime, Voltron, the Super Sentai/Power Rangers genre and kaiju films, is the series' first full episode-length story, and also features the casts of The Justice Friends and Dial M for Monkey in battle against the monster. During the battle, Dexter finally reveals to his parents the secret of his lab, but he erases it from their memories after defeating the monster. Dexter also finds out that his lab monkey is a superhero, but Monkey erases this from Dexter's memory at the end of the episode. The title is a play on the phrase, "last but not least," indicating this was intended to be the series finale, until the series returned in 2001 for a third season.

Sole Brother: Dexter accidentally becomes Dee Dee's foot when the two fuse together. Now they have to wait 24 hours to reverse the fusion. Note: There is a deleted scene, where it shows Dexter and Dee Dee in dance class, but it was cut out so A Dad Cartoon could fit in.

As Dexter is putting the finish touches on his newest invention, the "Rude Removal System", Dee Dee shows up, interrupting Dexter as usual. Dexter explains his new invention and plans to remove the rudeness from Dee Dee, causing the siblings to engage in a fight. Inadvertently, the Rude Removal System is activated, and the two end up inside of the device, splitting the pair into well-behaved and rude halves. The rude halves constantly use profanity and break things. As their mother calls them for lunch time, the rude halves go to the kitchen. There, they cause a mess and act insubordinate, enraging their mother. The well-behaved halves soon follow and are forced to answer for the mess their counterparts caused. Eventually, the rude halves end up in Dexter's laboratory, destroying his lab. The well-behaved halves think up of a plan to trap the rude halves in the Rude Removal System and activate a reversal sequence to merge back together. Once they have merged and head out of the lab, they encounter their mother with a bar of soap to literally wash out her kids' mouths to which Dexter responds with "Oh, ****" Shortly after its release, the episode was set to 'unlisted' on YouTube and fully removed from AdultSwim.com.

Dexter convinces his older self that he is a genius who will one day save the future, and they travel to a later time together. Although they arrive in a scientific utopia, they find that the Dexter in this period is a doddering old man who can barely remember anything he has ever done. Backing up a few years, the three Dexters discover the world has fallen into ruin, and the inhabitants are extremely stupid. The Dexter in this time is a muscular hero, who reveals that Mandark stole his most prized invention, the Neurotomic Protocore (which D22 left in his cubicle). However, Mandark did not use the core correctly and reversed its energies, causing the widespread stupidity and allowing him to forbid technology to all but himself. All four of them team up to bring down Mandark, using the laboratory to build a large robot to storm Mandark's castle. When they arrive to confront Mandark, he summons his counterparts from the time period of each Dexter. At the climax of the battle, Dee Dee appears from the time machine and is revealed to be the one who saves the future (due to her curiosity about buttons). In a jealous rage, the Dexters build and send back through time an army of robots to destroy her — the very same seen at the beginning of the film. As the original Dexter returns to his own time and sees himself fighting with the robots, he realizes he has completed the cycle of events.
