A Hard Day's Day is the first segment of the eleventh episode in season 2 of Dexter's Laboratory. It originally aired on September 24, 1997.
In this episode, Dexter has a hard time grappling why he keeps having a bad day. When Dee Dee inspires him with astrology, Dexter gets the idea of moving the moon as it is blocking Saturn's "science waves", with disastrous results.
Plot[]
Dexter wakes up one morning feeling confident that it is "a fine day of science for him." After waking up, he goes inside his laboratory and immediately gets to work on his invention. Sometime later, Dexter inserts a cartridge inside the High-Five Machine, then jumps up and gives it a high-five. That night, Dexter fills out his science diary and goes to sleep.
The next day, Dexter wakes up, repeating the same process as the day before, and fills out his science diary where he has completed another one of his inventions: The Gizmo. The process repeats for a while until Dexter wakes up one morning realizing that something isn't right. Suddenly, Dexter's bed sends him flying out his bedroom window and into a tree, where he falls into some mud and heads inside the house through the front door. Mom remarks that he "woke up on the wrong side of the bed." Dexter suddenly gets an idea and goes back into his room.
Trying to find the perfect routine, Dexter goes through three dry runs and realizes he is just having a bad day. The bed suddenly sends Dexter to his room door, where he breaks his head through just as Dad is coming up the stairs. To help his son, Dad tells Dexter to "keep a stiff upper lip." This gives Dexter another idea.
Meanwhile, Dexter is in front of a keypad trying to access his laboratory. Dee Dee enters his room just to see what he's doing. She notices Dexter's invention, to which he tells her about keeping a stiff upper lip. Dee Dee then explains to her little brother about the "celestial-ination", where the moon "blocks" Saturn's rays from reaching Dexter. He then comes up with the idea of moving the moon out of Saturn's way, just as Dee Dee enters the correct passcode for him to access the laboratory.
Inside, Dexter fires a quad-booster rocket at the moon. In space, the rocket's boosters expand and crash into the moon, moving it out of Saturn's way. While the phase was a success, the rocket's main booster gets blown off, sending the moon hurtling into Earth in a downward spiral. Dexter watches to his dismay as the moon crashes down onto the city nearby and rolling near the house. In great danger, Dexter runs out of the laboratory as the moon chases him. Something then explodes, leaving Dexter's room and part of the house, in a rubble. Dee Dee opens the door telling Dexter to stop being so noisy. She then tells Mom that Dexter's "mooning" her.

- In this episode, it is revealed that Dexter is a Capricorn. However, in the season 3 episode "Mind Over Chatter", it is revealed that Dexter's birthday is March 24, meaning that he is an Aries.
